As a PMH-C (certified perinatal mental health counselor) Rooted Healing Therapy is determined to create a safe space for mothers at any point in their journey. From navigating the news of pregnancy, adjusting to your new reality in postpartum, and the gravity of loss maternal mental health is a passion of mine. Too often we minimize our emotional experience and silence the voice telling us we need support in managing the numerous changes pregnancy/postpartum bring. I have worked with women during pregnancy, navigated complex grief surrounding loss, and sat with clients coping with emotions after giving birth. From the outside looking in, a person will never know the steps walked by another. This is where our drive for working with trauma survivors comes from. Everyone needs a space to work through their distressing experiences; and to know they are not doing it alone. We are a practice with trained and Certified therapists in an Evidenced-Based Practice called Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
This model assists individuals in healing and removing the “weight” that can be carried and experienced physically, emotionally, and mentally after surviving trauma. EMDR is different than other therapeutic modalities in that it focuses on desensitization and reprocessing traumatic memories. This model can help clients who were once feeling stuck, experience hope as their distress is relieved through the use of EMDR techniques. It can create real lasting change and healing.
